Love a good data puzzle? I do.

Hands holding two puzzle pieces in front of various graphs and statistics.

In today’s world, as the frequency of mergers & acquisitions increases, there’s a corresponding increase in the need to ingest large amounts of digital information, combining new business data with the old. Data sets are rarely alike between companies that have the same basic products or services – or even when they use the same software. They might have unique configurations or have used the available fields differently. This necessitates the need to not only migrate that data but to transform it along the way – kind of like a big data puzzle.

These M&A conversions generally require a single migration effort, not counting rounds of testing. In other scenarios though, there’s a need to establish a recurring exchange of data. There are unique needs for each situation; different nuances to consider. Each project is like a data puzzle. Figuring out which piece goes where, how they fit together. Am I missing a piece? Do they truly fit or have I forced them into place?

In upcoming posts, I will talk more about both the M&A migration and the recurring data feed scenario. I’ll be discussing the approaches I’ve defined over the years as my love for data puzzles has grown.
